CBSE Marking Scheme

For Physics: Physics is one of the most important subjects in 12th standard and students who want to excel in the subject should be aware of the latest marking scheme of CBSE class 12 physics.

Physics paper is divided to 2 parts- Theory and Practical. Physics theory is for 70 marks and Physics Practical is for 30 marks. The duration is for 3 hours and the maximum weightage is given to Optics. The marking scheme provides general guidelines to reduce subjectivity in the marking of the examination. The marking scheme is a proper division of the marks according to the chapter. For Chemistry: Marking Scheme for Chemistry is similar to that of Physics. 70 marks are allotted to Theory and 30 marks are allotted to Practical. Almost the same weightage is given to all the sections in Chemistry.

For Mathematics: Marking Scheme for Mathematics class12 is very important for a student who wants to score good marks on the exam. For all the 3 subjects i.e Physics, Chemistry and Biology, 30 Marks is allotted to Practical and the marking scheme is common to all the above 3 subjects. To get an idea of what types of questions are asked in the exam, go through the Previous year Question Papers of CBSE Class 12. It is important for students to concentrate on all the topics and not on the ones which have higher weightage.

The assessment of theory or practical papers in external subjects will be in numerical scores. The grades will be indicated on the mark sheet. Qualifying marks for external examinations are:

• 33% at the Secondary or Senior School Certificate Examinations
• 33% marks in theory
• 33% marks in the practical separately

The Board shall classify all passing students in rank order and then award grades as follows:

• A1 : Top 1/8th of the passing candidates
• A2 : Next 1/8th of the passing candidates
• B1 : Next 1/8th of the passing candidates
• B2 : Next 1/8th of the passing candidates
• C1 : Next 1/8th of the passing candidates
• C2 : Next 1/8th of the passing candidates
• D1 : Next 1/8th of the passing candidates
• D2 : Next 1/8th of the passing candidates
• E : Failed candidates

• You will receive your Passing Certificate if you get a grade higher than E in all subjects.
• If the candidate gets a grade less than E, their result will be withheld for less than a year.
• You must obtain 33% marks in all subjects: theory and practical in order to be declared as ‘passed’.
• No overall division, distinction or aggregate shall be awarded.
